This morning’s view of the Chateau de Barroux, beautiful with the summer coming up behind and over to backlight the buildings and trees. But what has been drilled into us – and to any landscape painter – is not to think of them as buildings and trees but as shapes, masses, and values. So easy but so hard. Anyway i am happy with this one. Normally I am sortakinda happy just if I dont hate it. So if I like it even a little I am regular old happy. Nice to end on a high note. Back to sketching and watercolor for rest of trip… Has been a great workshop with @ianrobertsartist and a great group of fellow painters. .

Quick watercolor sketch of the little church in #lebarroux. It is hot as hell here and the mosquitoes ate me alive. Plein airpainting is not for sissies. Now back to the unairconditioned hotel… to beg for ice… Im feeling bold and will ask for 3 cubes tonight instead of the usual two… And yet it is just so great to be here and get to do this. Grateful grateful.

One last shot today of #lebarroux. The church was shut alas. Learned that Prince Charles used to paint here when visiting his godmother who had a house nearby. The nearest town is #carpentras.
