Supper in a Blue Moon

You know how you do something and think, why don’t we do this all the time instead of once in a blue moon? (ha-ha-get-it?) We do have dinner on the little dock occasionally, but it really would be a great idea to do it every full moon as long as we don’t freeze to death.

Dinner on the Dock

Granted it’s a little, okay a lot, more trouble to do dinner down there. But a grill and a cooler take care of most of it, and the meal we keep pretty simple. I do like the table to be pretty, though, and it’s fun to use your “good” things in unexpected places.
Dinner on dock
Set for a small casual dinner. Stella likes that her picture is on the plates.

The pond at Rancho La Zaca is one of Stella’s favorite spots, and she is especially pleased  with her likeness as featured on the Spode plates I gave His Grace a while ago. Do you reckon she is spoiled rotten? HG is the biggest pushover I have ever seen.
Flowers at pond
A woodsy arrangement of pieris (one of my faves), green trick dianthus (those green pom-pom things, scabiosa pods (love), and smokebush.

Sometimes it’s fun, too, to use leaves, pods, and other woodsy weird stuff instead of flowers, as I did here. Pieris is one of my favorites, and those green trick puffball things are fun. The deep burgundy of the smokebush leaves is a nice contrast, and the scabiosa pods sort of punctuate the whole thing.
Blue Moon Over Pond
This is not the pond at Rancho La Zaca but it's close. I don't have a fancy enough camera to take photos like this one from Shutterstock.

    1. Thank you all for your nice comments. Sometimes it’s nice just to see a pretty picture. As a recovering perfectionist, I have to remind myself that it’s okay every now and then to keep it simple and call it a day. xox

  1. Thanks for the calming photos of a beautiful place, moon, and table (as usual). And very wise advice to keep it simple, in an otherwise world. Love the pods. I like Wisteria beans, and left over garden lima pods too! I found it so funny that in Ca. the farmer’s markets sold bittersweet, cat tails and goldenrod. xxoo Pete

  2. If it wasn’t you, I’d say that table venue is not real. How beautiful! I hope all appreciated the exta effort. I’D help. (-:

    1. Well Miss Elizabeth we are going to have to re-stock the beer repertoire, but we won’t wait for anther blue moon! xox

  3. This is just as beautiful as inspiring, Frances. I’m going to – for real, for certain, absolutely – next time I entertain, going to drag everything out in to the field or garden and not poop out at the thought of it. It is worth the effort to make memories as lovely as this one surely is for you. xxo.

  4. What a great setting, it seems like the perfect place to have a romantic dinner during the full moon. I absolutely love the flower arrangement too, very lush & free. Hope you think t was worth the extra effort!

    1. Thank you Elizabeth a House Mouse! And thanks for reminding me to visit ahousemouse.com – I love it! Best to you, Frances
