The oaks cast such long dramatic shadows in the late afternoon on Meadowvale, with #grass-mountain in the distance. I may have moved the mountain a little. Started this en plein air one afternoon last summer and stared at it in my studio months later. A stroke or 20 this afternoon and call it a day. The mountain is rather right in the middle though, now i look at it. I may need to move it again?? How about a pear infused pick me up? This pretty and refreshing spritzer will put an extra pep in your step without alcohol. Yes it is Dryjuary around here and mocktails rule the day, and fun for the whole family. With a bit of rosemary simple syrup to top it off, it is cheers-worthy indeed. Head to my stories for the recipe. Cheers! Photography by @themerrythought

A fun way to wear a stodgy brooch? Brooches, like brown furniture, are bound to make a comeback, or so I keep saying, but meanwhile we can try to hip them up a bit yes? I love this one inherited from my godmother but it is dated. On a whim I clipped it to this fun favorite necklace from @taffinjewelry and kind fun, right? With a poplin shirt and jeans? Or no? What do you think? Or any other ideas? (Love my @ansea shirt thank you @hollyejacobs !) . . . #frollye #brooch #taffin #beadnecklace

Originally intended to conserve warmth and offer privacy, canopy beds are now beloved for their luxury and coziness. They offer a whole ‘nother design element as well. I love the interplay here of scale and pattern, the larger print of the bed curtain and wall covering and the smaller print of the pillow. The floral-framed bird prints provide a deft flourishing finish. Photography by The English Room

Frances Palmer is a wonder: Potter, gardener, floral designer, photographer, cook, entrepreneur, I mean, just swoon. And a fellow Frances to boot. Her new book is a wonder too, and just the thing to inspire us through yet another wintry wave of isolation and I don’t even want to say it. Our books speak volumes about us, pun intended. What do yours say about you? Surprise, mine are houses, gardens, flowers, food, travel, spirituality, and… self-help. When a friend pointed out how many self help books I’d read, and tied it to my recently completed 9 months training as a life coach, I was stunned. I guess I was headed that way all along. At this point in my life I just want to bring light to the world and I want to help YOU bring YOURS. See my latest blog post via link in my profile. Photography by Harlowe James

The climbing ivy and the architecture of this old English house caught my eye. Built in light Cotswold stone, the former rectory was built in the late eighteenth century, and extended in the centuries since, including the addition of a Gothic Revival-style oratory was added. Bacon! One of my favorite old family recipes (thank you cousin Boush, or was it Bouche, I was never sure) and fave go-to hors d’oeuvres, are the Bacon Crackers in California Cooking and Southern Style. 2 ingredients and 30 minutes to bake. You will die. But not of nitrates 😉 Head to my stories for the recipe and let’s get cookin’, good lookin’! They also freeze beautifully. #CaliforniaCookingandSouthernStyle

Atlanta architect Norman Askins (whom I LOVE) designs houses that are elegant without pretense, ranging from Italian Renaissance to English Country, to American Federal. Though Norman himself claims to be “a cottage person.” His book is a brilliant reference for anyone considering building, renovating, or adding on. The livability, handsomeness, charm, and accessibility of Askins’ designs grace every page…and every corner of his personal home, Villa Vecchia. Take a tour through my link in bio. Doth two sunset posts a theme maketh? My daughter in law gave me a hilarious calendar of Shakespeare put downs and it has infiltrated my speech… Anyway the sky was soooo pink and lavender pretty last night that I had to stop and take it in. This is the drive into our neighbors, the Kohlers, and their beautiful vineyard and property. . . #losilivos #santabarbaracounty #santabarbarawinecountry #vineyard #vineyardviews #vineyardsunset #kohlerwinery #santaynezvalley #foxencanyon #instagood
