Would you believe we got all the way to Santiago and the Cathedral was closed?! Under renovation and supposed to reopen May 1. Nope. The pilgrims mass was held instead at the equally beautiful church of St Francis, founded by St F himself, so not exactly a letdown—just different and just as marvelous. .
