Beginning to take shape and direction … Keeping it simpler this year, which is not to say simple … I love the combo of magnolia, camellia, olive and persimmons, and this is what’s ended up on the mantels. The entries are done and now only setting the table and the centerpiece to go. Our gathering is tiny this year, but Im not stinting on the flowers or greenery. The more beauty the better!More ideas in my stories

Thanksgiving will be here before we know it and I am still hemming and hawing over the table. Even though we are a smaller group this year, I want to make as special as ever. I have found terrific inspiration, now I just have to make a decision! Stop by my stories to see and let me know in the comments below which is your favorite? Photography by @frugalcouponliving

An archival English print by @scalamandre and a basket weave wallpaper by @thibaut_1886 create a welcoming guest bedroom of pattern, texture, and warmth. Designed by Chiqui Woolworth, this Upper East side apartment glows with vivid lacquered walls, bold accessories, and delightful details. And little wonder; Woolworth’s teachers were Mario Buatta and Tom Britt. Says it all, doesn’t it. Stop by my link in bio to see this gorgeous, fun Park Ave apartment. Photograhy by @annieschlechter

Inspired by fall and the coming holidays, in spite of the you know what… and realizing my being grumpy/sad/glum helps nothing. And yet. We are human and feel all of the above. Beauty in all its forms is a healer, we can seek to create and celebrate that, and navigate through the rest of it as best and as carefully as we can. I heard a wonderful quote today by Pema Chodron: “I am the sky. Everything else is weather.” . . #rancholazaca #californiacookingandsouthernstyle #dinneralfresco #centerpiece #flowersandpumpkins #fallvibes #autumnvibes #thanksgivingdecor

I’m hiiidiiiing… from the reality that Thanksgiving is a minute away, but this adorable photo makes me happy and laughy, like Thanksgiving, while somehow acknowledging my denial. Like many of us, we will be hosting a much smaller group this year, with everyone testing and quarantining ahead of time, and we will just do the best we can with all of it. ICYMI, there was a good piece pandemic-holiday-hosting, interviewing yours truly among others) in the @latimes and elsewhere recently. Link in my bio.

The sunlight raking through this glorious meadow is God gardening. Watching the light move about a garden and through grasses and trees is fascinating, beautiful, and healing. I’ve recently read The Well-Gardened Mind – The Restorative Power of Nature, by Sue Stuart-Smith and loved it. Not least of all because she covers the Horticulture Society of New York’s Greenhouse garden therapy program at Riker’s Island. And that’s only the beginning of the Hort’s educational and therapeutic programs. What restorative power might you look forward to exploring and fostering this weekend?

This past weekend I posted about @johnderiancompany latest collection (catch up with my last post for details) and synchronicity shazaam: The first thing to pop up when I opened @pinterest this morning was this charming bath in @johnderian’s 18th-century Provincetown house. Orignally belonging to a sea captain, the house is filled with charming antiques and offbeat objects, just as you might expect. Derian even left the peeling wallpaper as part of the decor. After my own heart. See more via link in my bio… Photos by Alpha Smoot for Cup of Jo. Styling by Kate Jordan

This is always my favorite time of year in New York (but isn’t it everyones?!) The leaves start to change and a crisp chill lets me take out all of my favorite sweaters. I always imagine myself going on boat rides in Central Park, walking the High Line with a pumpkin spice latte in hand haha…and yet I never seem to make it to the boathouse. With the world shut down, what better time to take a jaunt through some of my most treasured NYC haunts. Ready for a tour? Take a peek at my stories….
